Mother's Day

After church on Mother's Day, we headed to Roseville to play at Gran-Granny's house. It was a hot day, and boys will be boys, so these pictures are a little "showy." :)

Playing in church clothes

On Mother's Day morning, B was all dressed up for church. As we were leaving, he found Cash's bulldozer and got in a few more minutes of playtime before loading up in the car to go.

Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Muffins

Here's a new favorite with the Doggetts (minus Baylen)...

Ingredients

• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1 cup whole-wheat flour
• 2 teaspoons baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
• 2 tablespoons butter, softened
• 1 cup packed brown sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 3/4 cup milk
• 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) mini chocolate chips

Directions

PREHEAT oven to 375º F. Paper-line or grease 18, 2 1/2 –inch muffin cups.
COMBINE all-purpose flour, whole-wheat flour, baking powder and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, peanut butter and brown sugar in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs and milk; beat until smooth. Add flour mixture to peanut butter mixture; beat until just blended. Stir in morsels. Spoon batter into prepared cups, filling 3/4 full.
BAKE for 18 to 20 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in centers comes out slightly sticky. Cool in pans on wire racks for 5 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Store in airtight containers. 

They are super yummy, but not too sweet. I made them for a favorite friend's birthday to take to small group last week, and they were definitely a hit. Try them, and let me know what you think! 

Two friends, two ceremonies, one wonderful weekend

I have a very special friend. We have been friends, best friends, since sixth grade - that's about twenty years now that we've shared our lives with each other. We've been through middle school, high school, boyfriends, college, graduate schools, first jobs - everything together. And this past weekend, I was fortunate enough to walk with Bhavini through another milestone - her wedding!

I had been looking forward to this weekend for months - literally. I knew there would be lots of her family, which I adore, and lots of Glasgow friends from way back - which I know mean lots of fun. I was not disappointed at all - family, friends, and a whole lot of fun! It was a sweet, special time, my best friend married the love of her life - who happens to be a good friend, too.

Here's a few pictures from the weekend, and if you've heard anything about a dance video on YouTube - I'm denying it all! :)

Thursday night was family and (yummy) food. We also got our henna for the Hindu ceremony. It took the lady over 4 hours to finish Bhavini's hands and feet. 

Friday night was some more delicious food and lots of traditional Indian dancing. I had a blast! Here's me with the happy couple. Love you two!

Being the dorks that we are, we posed on her steps where we had posed 11 years ago for prom with our dates.

It was an awesome weekend. Lots of laughs, a few tears, more memories to add to our collection, and of course, dancing. To Bhavini and David - I wish you two all the love and happiness in the world. I love you both!

House update

I'm thinking this may possibly be the last house update. After this one, it's going to be so close, that you'll just have to come and see the finished product yourself! We'd love to have company! Just stop in, or call ahead if you want dinner! :)


This week we are (hopefully) getting the final electrical inspection completed, the kitchen and laundry room countertops set, and all the vanities in the bathrooms completed. The gutters were finished earlier this week, and we are hoping that the rest of the outside of the house will be completed by the end of the week.

Heath's uncle Mike came up last week and helped Heath with the trim and interior doors. They also put the wood slats in the porch ceilings. Heath took a week of vacation and they got a lot done. Thanks uncle Mike!

We are looking at a final plumbing inspection early next week, and then our hardwood friend will come back the middle of the week to sand and finish the floors. Carpet will come the next week, final touches, and we (me, really) am hoping to start moving some things in the first week of June.

Nana, heaven and Kevin

The other night while we were driving back from our favorite Glasgow Mexican restaurant, the Randy Travis song "Angels" came on the radio. This is the song that Heath danced to with his mother at our wedding. He was singing it as we drove home, and Cash asked, "What dis song?" (as he always does). Heath explained to him that this song reminded him of his mom. This is how the rest of the conversation went...

Heath: Do you remember Nana, Cash?
Cash: Nana?
Heath: Nana was my mom, Cash. She's in heaven, remember?
Cash: In heaven? With Jesus?
Heath: Yes! Nana is in heaven with Jesus.
Cash: Like Kevin.
(Keep in mind that we have a good friend named Kevin, but Kevin is also the crane that works at the Steam Works on Thomas. Either one didn't quite make sense, so Heath went on trying to figure it out.)
Heath: What do you mean like Kevin?
Cash: Kevin is like heaven.

Ahhh ... they rhyme.

Me: You mean they sound alike? That means they rhyme. Very good, lil' man!
Cash: Like my ball?
Again, Heath and I were confused. Ball didn't rhyme with heaven or Kevin.
Heath: What do you mean, Cash? Which ball?
