Fat Tuesday

Have you ever celebrated Fat Tuesday? Or Mardi Gras? We haven't really. For awhile while I was teaching at McNeill, the school would host a Mardi Gras Festival as a fundraiser, but it's never been a holiday or event that we've celebrated. Until this year.

Just out of fun and curiosity, I ordered a King Cake from the best-bakery-in-BG. Since the whole family was going to be over to eat at mom's one night, we had the cake a few days early. Ever wonder about a King Cake?

It's basically a cinnamon roll type cake covered in a yummy icing with green, purple, and yellow sprinkles. Of course, there are some beads for extra decoration. There was no "flashing" going on though - unless you count the normal lifting-of-the-shirt-showing-my-belly stuff that toddlers do. :)

Oh, yeah. There's something else about a King Cake. There's a baby inside. Crazy, right? Whoever gets the piece with the baby inside wins. Just kidding. You're supposed to specify what the "winner" gets. In our case, we decided that the "lucky" person that finds the baby was in charge of buying the cake the next year.

Shown here, Karalee found the baby in her piece. Funny enough, I cut the pieces and served it up. *wink, wink* Kennick and Cash were the most interested in the baby in the cake. Their reactions were worth it all!
