After we moved into our new house, we knew that we definitely wanted to get to know our neighbors. We had met some people while building our house, and we already knew the couple that we bought our land from, but we knew that there was a great community already established that we wanted to become a part of.
As I was talking to Lara, a neighbor friend, we stumbled over the idea of a street potluck. One thing led to another, the weather cooled off, and we scheduled the event. We really had no idea what to expect, but boy, were we overwhelmed! Just about everyone on street showed up, armed with yummy food, and ready for an afternoon of fellowship with old and new friends!
Mike, Lara's husband, and Heath were the "grill masters."
It was the perfect weather for a cookout, sunny and warm.
We set up tables in the cul-de-sac, Mike parked his wagon in the middle for the food, and we were all set.
Here's Mike and Lara. They are wonderful neighbors, solid believers, and we know life-long friends. They have been such a joy to get to know and a huge help with building the house. Cash and B love visiting their house (they have fun toys, including tractors, wrecking ball cranes, and a wheeled excavator!).
Not the greatest family picture, but here we are. Our neighbor, Jill, took lots of pictures and put them on FB, where I downloaded some to have. I had my camera there, but didn't get around to taking many pictures. And yes, Heath takes his Tabasco wherever we go...
The adults enjoyed chatting and playing cornhole, but some of the kiddos found entertainment in our gravel pile. Here's Cash at the top of it with Luke's wheeled excavator.
And here's B with Luke and Lauren at the bottom of the pile. There's just something about kids and gravel...
Do you see this small cannon? Our down-the-street neighbor owns this cannon and only shoots it off on special occasions, like the Fourth of July. Everyone was excited to have him bring it out for a few more shots. Even though it's small, it's really loud! Although Cash wasn't too excited about the loudness, B said, "More" and "Again" after the two shots. :)
It was a great night. I met a bunch of our neighbors, but not all of them. Some that I already knew, I got to know better. I'm thankful that we have been blessed with such great neighbors and friends, and I hope that this potluck becomes an annual event!
