On Sunday night, the 20th, we left after church and drove south for a much needed vacation. We were on our way to the beach, more specifically Orange Beach, Alabama, close to Gulf Shores. The boys had been super excited about it for a few weeks, and by the time we left they were asking questions left and right, including the infamous, "Are we there yet?" It took them awhile to understand that it would take awhile to drive there. We drove until midnight or so, stopping to spend the night in Pelham, Alabama, just south of Birmingham.
The next morning we ate a yummy free breakfast from the hotel and were ready for a morning of driving. Heath and I have been blessed with two little guys who are pretty good travelers. Cash will watch movies and cartoons for hours on end (we borrowed Grammy's van which has a TV in it). B gets restless at times, but with some extra toys and gadgets to hand back to him, he manages trips just fine. This day was no different - they were our happy little travelers.
Grammy and Grandad bought the boys their own personal Magna-Doodles to have for the ride down there. Cash was sitting playing with his as we loaded the car Monday morning.
Meanwhile B was chilling in the back of the car sporting his new hat "like daddy's."
Yes, after a week of having this van, I have the van-fever. It's so roomy and convenient! As you can tell, we had packed a lot for our week at the beach. Food for breakfast and lunches at the condo, suitcases and lots of beach toys!
Most awesome idea ever - my mom bought the boys these canisters and filled it full of different little toys, snacks, and surprises. When B would get restless, I'd hand him back his canister and he'd find something in it to occupy him. Here he's found some raisins and is watching some Tom and Jerry with Cash.
I've heard some parents say that their kids don't sleep in the car. Our's have never had a problem with napping while buckled in their car seats. :)
Yes, indeed, we had some happy travelers, but they were super excited about getting to the beach Monday afternoon. (Heath and I were, too!)
