On St. Patrick's Day, we went to Lovers Lane Soccer Complex here in Bowling Green to see Heath's nephew (mine, too!) play some soccer. He's on a five year-old team, and they play most every Saturday at 9:00. Wow. Saturday that early in the morning usually finds our boys still in jammies playing outside with honey on their mouths. But we got around early, made it there (a little late), and enjoyed watching Nick play some soccer.
And we were not disappointed at all by the excitement of the game (and the craziness of a Saturday morning at the soccer complex!). Wow, there were lots of kids playing that morning. The fields were covered in colorful jerseys, lots of parents rooting their kids on, green, green grass and mud puddles. Yes, it had rained the day before and it was quite soggy.
There's Nick (gray jersey in the lead of the pack) going for the ball.
Look at those soccer skills! He ended up scoring two or three goals for his team that morning!
Cash was busy listening for airplanes. The airport is right next to the soccer fields. (Thanks, Grammy, for the green shirts!) The boys did watch some of the game, too. They cheered on Nick some, too, but mainly enjoyed kicking a spare ball around on an empty field next to the game.
Go Cardinals!
Here's my attempt at getting a picture of the three cousins. B was busy eating a snack and wouldn't look at the camera. Oh, well.
Enjoying his own snack after the game. Great job, Nick! Hopefully we can catch another one before the end of the season!
Yes, I did mention there were puddles. Good thing the boys wore their mud boots. They had a great time splashing in the puddles while we were waiting for Heath to finish up in the Port-o-John. :)
And then we had the long, long walk to the car. There was plenty of splashing and running to keep the boys entertained, though.
Maybe one day the boys will be playing in a soccer game of their own. Hmm. We'll see!
As for now we'll just watch cousin Nick play and splash in the puddles with daddy.
Later that day we drove to Glasgow. The boys played at my parents' house while Heath helped my dad put up some trim at the office. I hung out with mom. That evening we had corned beef, cabbage, and cornbread (very traditional Irish meal, for us at least) at my Granny's house.
And to answer your question, yes, I had on green, and no, Heath didn't, and yes, we all pinched him! :)
