Originally, I had planned on working through December with our Letter of the Week curriculum. We had finished the letter H, and next on the calendar I had X and Y before we got to J (is for Jesus) the week of Christmas. But then I changed my plan. I started to find more and more Christmas school games out there complete with great books, and since we were doing our Advent devotions every night, I thought it would be great to stick with the CHRISTmas theme the entire month. And seriously, it's a great theme!
So here are some pictures of the boys enjoying some of the CHRISTmas themed "school games." We are going to do J is for Jesus next week, so I don't have pictures of those yet. I've also tried to add in some links so that if you would want to try some with your little ones, you can, too!
These puzzles seem to be a hit with my 'lil man. He uses the numbers on the bottom of them for help. We also have some that are similar, but smaller, and they are pictures of each of the different characters in the Nativity story. (Mary, Joseph, a shepherd and a wise man)
B wasn't so much in working on puzzles this day, plus they are a bit advanced for him, so we got the Play-Doh out for him to play with. He loves his Play-Doh! :)
Cash is working on patterns in this picture, but you can also see where he has finished a sorting activity. He had lots of pictures and sorted them into People and Animals. This is where the deep-for-a-three-year-old conversation started when he asked if an angel is a person or an animal.
Patterns ... he loves singing the patterns outloud. It's cute. Mary, baby Jesus, Mary, baby Jesus ...
This was a fun game that Cash and I played. We flicked the spinner, and then used our Do-A-Dots to graph the results. I believe it ended up being a tie between the green Christmas light and the yellow Christmas light. We would stop every few times and compare the tallies.
Meanwhile, I was also helping B make a Christmas tree with his Do-A-Dots. We love our Do-A-Dot markers!
Cash practiced some one-on-one coordination using some Christmas words. O is for ornaments, L is for lights and T is for tree...
B preferred to wear C is for Christmas on his head!
Then Cash practiced some harder counting with these ornaments on the Christmas trees. These went all the way to twenty, which I was excited about. He's got one through ten down with no problem, but finding "school games" that practice 11-20 are sometimes are to find.
In case you're interested in the Letter of the Week curriculum that teaches J is for Jesus, here's the link. We'll definitely include it in our school games, but I may or may not get around to posting pictures. :)
Totally Tots has made it easy, and a lot of Christmas printables are in the same place.
